A good Catholic joke [Aug. 24th, 2008|06:30 pm]
At Church last night for a Knights of Columbus function and the following joke was told:

When the new church was built we had a problem with mice, not wanting to kill them they were trapped and taken a couple of miles down the road and released.
2 weeks later they were back.
So an exterminator was called, and he fixed some holes and access, trapped the mice and took them to the other side of the river and released them.
2 weeks later they were back.
At this point one of the parishioners recommended they be baptized as members of the Parish. That way, she said, there was a really good chance we would only come back for Easter and Christmas.

The whole room just fell apart laughing.

Pennsic and such [Aug. 17th, 2008|07:05 am]
Home again and unpacked and headlong into the real world again.
War was undoubtedly the best yet, mild weather and a full camp made for a very restful week even with the pavilion drama. (my period pavilion destroyed itself in storage which I didcovered late in the game.) The mundane tent I camped in did really well and didn't annoy me nearly as well as I thought it was going to. The CPAP worked without a hitch, as did the teen i hired to haul it to charge and back.
The big news is I have a new household, after years of hemming and hawing (mostly on my side) I was taken into Wulfguard this war. Very moving all round, hopefully someone will send the pics soon.

Work continues to be work, but its not as bad as it could be.
Planning has started for Defenders in the spring (with myself as autocrat) I'm thinking late April but I actually have to dig the calendar out and figure that soon.

More about the 12 ft square hole in the garage ceiling and our plumbing problems later...

I had started a project at Sapphire and got quite a bit done... (the business card is for scale)
IMG00015.jpg
And I had to restart it.. Well I didn't HAVE to restart it I just did. I went from 18 count fabric to 22 count and the difference is amazing,
IMG00013.jpg
It will have a lot more of the pattern on it and will be smoother over all. And I did go get a nice scroll frame for it.. so it turns out it wasn't so bad to re-do it after all . I may even finish the first one eventually...

Look Martha... it's another post.... [Mar. 26th, 2008|08:55 pm]
Made it through the holidays, much evil was done to my bloodsugar on Easter itself and now I am back off candy again. Lent on Atkins was no fun at all and I am happy to be getting back in the swing of it.

The new cat (as yet unphotographed) is beginning to blend into the household, she is very definitely a momma's kitty and has decided my hip is a great place to spend the night.

Working on my next few classes for the shire. Work itself is going well, if you are an Oracle whiz, Linux geek, or system accountant and would like to work in Kearneysville WV I need to hear from you, If you know Oracle Federal Financials I need to hear from you yesterday :) itjobswv.com

No word on the Prof Layton sequel (Other than its called 'Pandora's Box', but as soon as I know.. you will know. Ive seen the trailer (in Japanese) and it is a MUCH larger game than the first, but that is all I have .. for now.

My poor computer keeps chugging along, than you for the various offers of help, short version is it needs a new power supply and a new motherboard. If it can hang in there a little longer tiger will have a barebones sale and all will be well again.

You are The Wheel of Fortune

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

[music |Cigaretts, and whisky, and wild wild women. (Peter Sellers)]

Something has possessed Pooks to drag out the Muppett Show DVD's, so we are slowly working our way through them, and getting very nostalgic for the time when staying up late ment 8pm.

I have the attention span of a gnat these days.

Got a new guy at work, and last monday he brought in a DRAWER full of Halloween candy, which the crew went through like fire through wheat, and we filled it up again THIS week. So I have between 12 and 20 lbs of sugar, gummies and chocolate less than 10 feet away at all times. This for the record is a bad damn thing :)

Playing WOW again in some faint and unreasonable hope of making 60 by Nov 22. I do have some sick time but I really don't see that happening, but I am making better progress this time around.

Throwing a baby shower this weekend for one of our friends, and that has me ging in several directions at once, We are the baby's godparents, frightening a thought as that is.

House cleaning continues.

Paperwork for a home equity loan went in today.

In short nothing much hot and fancy going on today.

The Weekend [Oct. 2nd, 2006|08:22 pm]
Friday:
Came home feeling miserable, laid on the couch, tried to coax the cat to snuggle and passed out. Woke up for 40 seconds to Pooks telling the cat "Mommy MUST be sick if shes on the couch" and passed out again, woke up about 9:30 stumbled through to the library, Pooks tells me I was out pretty hard and suggests I go hook up the machine and call it a week.

Saturday:
Pooks made gumbo, It's a several hour event, punctuated by several naps on my part. His Gumbo is GOOD, but I can only eat the chicken out of it, the rest is too hot. Had a conversation with my mom wher I told her I'd like to know the news from home in a bit more timely manner, (There have been 2 weddings and a family renuion this summer that I found out about after the fact) Whereupon she tells me my aunt had gall bladder surgery 2 weeks ago. We talked it out, she promised to keep me up to date, And I promised to write my grandparents real live "stamp and envelope" letters more often.

Sunday:
Watched most of the second season of Dr Who, did grocery shopping, talked to work for 2 hours and had a nice long talk with my sister.
-------------------------------------

And speaking of real live letters, one of the sites I print stationary form has FINALLY been translated into english! (from Japanese). The site is Cannon's (even though I have an HP printer)

Some of my favorite envelopes:

There is also pages and pages of origami papers (nice for folding or small gifts under the crafts links.

My vacation [Sep. 4th, 2006|09:46 pm]
[mood | exhausted]

Well hell.

It looks like the race season may be exceptionally short this year. You will recall the transmission seized on the last lap at Beaver Run packing weekend of war. We brought the car home and wrestled the transmission out (eventually dropping it quite literally) cleaned one of the spares up to find its shifting works looked 'iffy' cleaned and wrestled in (with a lot of sweat and cussing) the second spare, finishing on Thursday. No love, car went on the track Saturday and in second qualifying burped, tried to sieze again and started to smell like something had caught fire and died in it. This smell is traced to the back axle where the drive shaft meshes with it in the 'pumpkin'... Sigh. So in the middle of getting this figured out one of the other racers comes by ...sniffing. We tell him we got to go home, tear apart the parts car and change out rear axles. He yanks a thumb over toward his camp space, a move, as it turns out that translates into "I have a spare over there you can use, a son to help wrestle it, the spare jack you are going to need, and enough good advice so that you will be done and back on tires in 40 minutes."
Which is all just lovely, bless folks who want to help, trouble is it wasn't the only problem .. car went back on track on Sunday and a couple laps in, burps again and Pooks (driving on a loaned rear end) pulls off and takes himself out of the race.
Some further consult and everyone decides its the pilot bearing (A deeply hidden piece of chicanery that nests in the back of the engine, and entails taking drive shaft, transmission and clutch off/apart to get too... and at this point we are spent and call the weekend done.
We race home shower and FLY to just make Church. We decide f-it the car can sit till Monday, go out to eat at Avanti (a story in itself), where I get Pook drunk, drive him home and put him to bed. Feh. We go back this morning and spent the rest of the day semi vegging and picking up the house.

I am so ready to go back to work so I can relax.

And now for my next trick... [Aug. 8th, 2006|07:48 pm]
[mood | mischievous]

Ok, it's official .. I've lost my mind :)

I have my next project lined up and it's a doozy. I want to do a podcast. An SCA podcast. Just a little one. I already have some folks lined up, and a few more that I want to line up (some of you just found out ;) ) (and if anyone wants to volunteer, way cool)

And I finally got the domain, not the one I wanted but a close second. digitalfireside.com (there is nothing there yet) I've been working myself up to starting for a couple of weeks now, And I figured It's time to say something for a couple of reasons... the first being Pennsic is a great place to find stories, and the second being someone else is about 40 minutes from coming up with the same idea. :)

Here is the nickel tour:

8 weeks of once a week shows with stories, myth, history and humor(and music)from the SCA. I HOPE to get folks to recorded telling their own stories and what not, but will take mailed in recordings as well. (I'm also playing with the idea of recording over the phone, but that kind of one on one just sounds different).

Simple as that huh? If it goes well the 8 weeks could get extended, and I hope to have everything together to start posting in October.

I'd love feedback on the idea, ideas to make it work, suggestions on folks to tap, ways to get word out that anyone is welcome ..tapped or not etc. And if anyone has experience doing this kind of thing all the better :) Next on my list is getting some kind of release written up.

digitalfireside@gmail.com is live currently, and the web page should be up either during or right after Pennsic. As I said there is nothing to subscribe to yet, but when there is the domain will still get folks there.
